Charlie Ubaido Gonzales, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 31, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Comanche Trail Church of Christ, 2700 E. 34th St. with Evangelist Kyle Pope of Olsen Park Church officiating. Burial will be at Llano East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Charlie was born January 8, 1934 in Puerto, New Mexico to Roman Casaus and Rafaela Gonzales. He grew up in the Puerto and Garita, New Mexico area and attended high
school in Trementina, New Mexico. Charlie met and married his wife, Kathy, on February 10, 1955 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Together they raised a family of 11 children. He made an early career as an auto mechanic and owned and operated a service station in Glen Rio, New Mexico. He went on to work for B&W Pantex for many years, retiring in 2000. Charlie was an active member of Olsen Park Church of Christ for more than 30 years. He loved his family, his Church, driving the countryside on vacations, writing songs and playing his guitar. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathy; a daughter, Lorraine Gonzales; and two sons, Michael Gonzales and Jim Gonzales. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Helen Castillo and husband Tomas of Diamond Bar, CA, Betty Jean Gonzales of Amarillo, Brenda Ballard and husband Mel of Ft. Worth, and Diane Jimenez of Amarillo; three sons, Jesse Gonzales and wife Cindy, Robert Gonzales and wife Danielle, and Allen Gonzales and wife Stacy all of Amarillo; three sisters, Mary Lucero, Joan Garcia and husband Antonio all of Lubbock, and Antonia Sandoval of Clovis, NM; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Olsen Park Church of Christ, 4700 Andrews Ave. Amarillo, TX 79103.
