Ronald William Phinny

June 6, 1941 ~ December 6, 2018 (age 77)

Ronald William Phinny, 77, of Amarillo passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018 at Hillside Christian Church; 6100 South Soncy Amarillo, Texas 79119. Ronald was born June 6, 1941 in Corsicana, Texas to Walter and Juanita Phinny. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1960 and went on to honorably serve his country in The United States Army. Ronald continued his education at Wayland Baptist in Plainview where he received his Bachelor’s degree. He was a dedicated Environmentalist with Excel Energy until his retirement. He was a faithful and active member of Hillside Christian Church.  After his precious wife, Norma, died, Ronald’s job became spreading sunshine everywhere he went from his visits to the nursing home, to his card playing buddies, his Plainview High School friends and to church.  He continually grew in his faith - always dedicated to his devotionals, his bible and attending church.  He was always willing to go the extra mile.  Ronald was upbeat, cheerful, good natured and fun.  He absolutely adored Brad and Jill, Gina and Bruce, his grandchildren: Beth, Jake, Joey and little great granddaughter, Ella. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Juanita Phinny; wife, Norma Jean Phinny; two sisters and a brother. Ronald is survived by his son, Brad Phinny and wife Jill; daughter, Gina Slattery and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Beth Copeland and husband Josh, Jake Slattery and Joey Slattery; great-granddaughter Ella Copeland and special friend, Linda Culp. There are so many of us who loved him including extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial donations to High Plains Food Bank; 815 Ross Street, Amarillo, TX 79102 or Faith City Mission; 401 SE 2nd Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
